Our Story
The story behind The Sixth Wave
We wanted to change the world before we knew how.
Long before this movement had a name, we held a simple belief: that the world could be fairer, more just and more humane than the one we were handed, and that ours was the generation to build it. We began with a conviction, and the restlessness that comes with it.
We looked, and we saw so much good already being done
When we looked around, we found people everywhere working toward a better world. Organisations, communities and campaigns, all giving their energy to causes worth serving. The will to build a better world was not missing. It was everywhere.
And then we noticed something
There was a gap.
For all the good work being done, the effort itself was rarely counted. The people who built movements, and the people who took part in them, poured in their best, and most of what they gave went unrecorded and unrewarded. Talent showed up in abundance, and only a fraction of it was ever seen. The energy of a generation was real, and so much of it was slipping away unremembered.
We saw a chance to do it differently. To build a movement where every contribution is counted, in the name of the person who made it. Where taking part leaves you stronger, whether or not you finish first. Where the many who show up and do the work are recognised, not treated as a backdrop for a handful of winners. And where the whole thing is built to last, on its own means, so it never has to answer to anyone but its mission.
The Sixth Wave belongs to those who build it.
This generation has what it takes
We also saw something the generations before us did not have. The tools once held only by governments and large institutions now sit in the hands of an ordinary student on any campus. The reach, the technology and the capability to build at scale have arrived, at exactly the moment the problems worth solving have never been more urgent.
The will was already there. Now the means are too. That is what made waiting feel impossible.
So we chose to begin now
We had always meant to build our own movement one day. We let go of the idea of a perfect moment somewhere in the future, and we chose to begin now, with what we had. Start small, grow it steadily, season after season, until it reaches every campus that needs it.
And we chose to build it to do two things at once: to change the world, and to change it well. To turn a generation's capability toward a fairer, more sustainable world, and to make sure everyone who helps build that world carries something real away from it.
That is what The Sixth Wave is. A movement and a social enterprise, built to channel this generation's capability into the world's hardest problems, and built so that everyone who gives it their best is remembered for it.
